Nudged: Share a few dad jokes
Oh, this is a fun one! It’s an opportunity to connect with a few young people in my life (nieces, nephews, godsons) and tickle my own funny bone.
“Tickle my own funny bone.” Feels like that fits right in with my theme of “delighting all my senses” in this round of Nudges.
I’m off to google for age-appropriate material. Let the laughter begin!
What Happened: “There’s this small village that has only two barbers….”
So began not quite a dad joke, but a dad riddle.
“One barber is great at his job and charges a fair price. The other barber is lousy at his job and charges a ridiculous fee. But there’s one man in the village who always goes to the bad barber for his haircuts. How come?”
I was so pleased with myself, certain I had finally found a riddle that would confound my smart young friend. Instead I got That Look. “I’ve heard this one,” she said. (Of course she had.) “He goes to the bad barber because (SPOILER ALERT) he is the other barber and can’t cut his own hair!”
Oh, man! I still laughed, and she laughed at my reaction. A win, I think.
The Ah-Hahs: I thought a lot this week about how I communicate with different people in my life. Some respond to text messages, others to calls. Some are delighted to receive a handwritten note, while others are regular correspondents over email. It takes a little doing to figure out what works for each special person in my life, and the effort is worth it. This small connection I had over a riddle was sweet and fun, and it lifted my spirits.
