Nudged: Pull out the French Flash Cards, do 10/day
Every quarter I get a slew of emails inviting me to register for classes at Alliance Française. I would love love love to do this. But time, money, other responsibilities…nope. Not yet.
What can I do? Pull out the big bag of flash cards I created the last time I studied the language and reboot that part of my brain. My goal is to flip cards until I get 10 right, then repeat every day this week.
You might…dust off an old instrument and test your muscle memory. Check out a book from the library on a subject you’ve always wanted to learn. Pull up some how-to videos on YouTube. Or google the class schedule at your local city college or rec center.
What Happened: Learning is fun! Full disclosure: I procrastinated and skipped Day 1, so doubled-down for Day 2…and then I took off. I did way more cards than 10/day, and was so pleased (thrilled, actually) to see how much I remembered.
This was so easy to do. On hold for the plumber? Flip a few cards. Attendees late to our Zoom meeting? Aucun problème! (No problem!) Any time I had a few spare minutes, I pulled out the cards and tested myself.
The Ah-Hahs: I thought this Nudge would be fun, then was surprised to discover it was FUN!
I still want to take a class—with homework and brain calisthenics and interesting classmates—and I hope that will happen one day soon. Meanwhile, this Nudge scratched my itch and made me very happy.
I’d love to hear what you learned this week. Please share in Comments.
