Nudged: Let the light in

Around the time I was putting together this round’s list of Nudges, I noticed I had a tendency to keep all the curtains in my office closed till late in the day. I operate better in light, especially natural light, so I decided I’d initiate a morning ritual of letting in the light.

It’s going to be a great week.

What Happened: What an easy thing to do! Opening all the curtains and letting in the light is now the first thing I do when I come into my office. I feel invigorated, clear-headed, and just good. Done!

The Ah-Hahs: …and then I took a deeper look at this Nudge. Let the LIGHT in. How else might I lighten my day?

After sending off a job, I lit a candle, sat quietly for a few minutes, took deep breaths. I adjusted my massive to-do list to give total focus to priorities, while letting smaller tasks slide for another day. No guilt! I sent a few “Thinking of you” text messages to friends I know are going through challenging times.

Nothing big. Just small ways to lighten the pressures I carry most of the time.
