Nudged: Facetime with a far-away friend
Honestly, I got pretty burned out pretty fast with all the Zoom meetups (and virtual cocktail hours/club meetings/reunions/”parties”) in the early days of COVID. They left me feeling empty. But I also value how technology has allowed me to keep up with family and friends across miles, if not oceans.
So this week, I’m nudging myself to reach out and virtually touch someone who is far away.
Who have you missed? Who needs an uplifting call? Who might lift you up? Whatever mode of communication you decide to use, let’s send some LOVE around this planet.
What Happened: To my amazement, the first friend who came to mind is not set up for FaceTime. Luddite! (I also admire her for not giving in to all the pressure to be on every type of social media.) I could have called her, but since I was specific with the wording of this Nudge, I chose to stick to the plan.
Friend #2 recently left California for a new adventure in the Midwest. It’s a really good move for her and her family, and my sadness at “losing” her pales in comparison to my excitement for her. She picked up the call before the second ring. “It’s so great to SEE you!” we said over each other.
We caught up on their move, their plans, their hopes for this new chapter of their lives. Then I got to do something my grandmothers could never have imagined: I got a live tour of my friend’s new home. So fun!
The Ah-Hahs: Nothing dramatic came out of this week’s Nudge. Just a reminder of the options we have available to us, and a burst of gratitude for the tools I have at my disposal…and for the wonderful friends, near and far, who sustain me.
P.S. When you catch up with friends this week, tell them about 52Nudges. I’d love to have more subscribers join us in all this fun.
