Nudged: Clean all the glasses
This is such a small task, but one that gets put off until I really really look at my reading glasses and wonder how I can see anything through the smudges!
Let’s call this “The Smudges Nudge.” 😉 It made it into The List 4.0 when I brainstormed how I might treat and honor my sense of sight.
Now that I’m writing this, it occurs to me this Nudge could also apply to the everyday glassware in our kitchen cabinet or the fancy wine glasses in the dining room. If I remove them for polishing, I might consider how long it has been since we’ve sipped from them and do some decluttering. Then there’s the opportunity to clean out the chipped glasses, as well as the promotional glasses and mugs (those random items with logos from fundraisers and 5K runs) and drop them into the recycling bin.
Whatever type of glasses you choose to clean or clean out, I hope you’ll celebrate the completion of this Nudge by taking a few minutes to toast yourself with something yummy.
What Happened: I went with my original intent, which was to clean all the eyeglasses–computer, reading, sunglasses. I gathered mine, then asked Thor to collect his from home, car, and office. Armed with cleaning spray and a special soft cloth, I went to work. The whole time I was spraying and wiping, I sang, “I can see clearly now, the rain has gone! I can see all the obstacles in my way!!!” (The dogs weren’t sure what to make of my singing, but I sure had fun.)
I put Thor’s glasses on the dining room table, put mine back where they belonged on the desk and bedside table. But then I looked for a place to snap the photo to accompany this post: the window in my office. Wow, I need to clean the windows. A future Nudge?
And that’s when I noticed all the birds on the climbing flowering bush just outside. I’ve seen hummingbirds, but not these (and I’m sorry I couldn’t get them to pose so you could help me identify them), but was a DELIGHT to watch them!
The Ah-Hahs: 1. Being goofy (and singing songs that make me smile) is a great way to get chores done. 2. There’s a whole beautiful show going on just outside my windows! And it took this Nudge for me to notice and appreciate it. I hope the birds that visited this week choose this bush to build their nest. I’d love to get better acquainted.
