Nudged: Take a cold shower

By Carolyn Weeks Carpenter, Guest Nudger Oh, how I love finding a kindred spirit! Carolyn is a long-time Nudger, and I’m thrilled she agreed to lead us in this week’s Nudge. She chose this one from my own list, and frankly, I’m grateful: It quite likely would have been one I’d passed on, if given the chance. Let’s dive in, shall we? –Kathleen If I’m ever going to take[...]

Nudged: Open all the windows

I am so over the rain! While our storms weren’t as bad as much of the world’s this winter, I’m still suffering from a case of cabin fever. Worse, my house is starting to smell like we’ve been shut in for months (i.e., every room smells like wet dogs). With fingers crossed that the weather cooperates, one day this week I plan to fling open every window and let in the fresh air.[...]

52+: Mud is Thicker Than Water

By Nancy Van Iderstine, Guest Nudger Sometimes Nudges are about adding things to our lives: adventures, memories, appreciation for pretty and treasured objects. Sometimes those same Nudges end up teaching us about the power of letting go. This is one of the latter. Nancy’s essay below is so brave. She offers a great example of how to live a 52Nudges Life, meaning one in which we put[...]

Nudged: Take a guided nature Hike

By Lisa Manterfield, Guest Nudger Greetings, Nudger! This week author Lisa Manterfield is inspiring us with her own nudge. I'm lacing up the hiking boots and grabbing the binoculars to do my version of this. What might you do to get outside and enjoy some natural beauty? -- Kathleen I’ve always been a nature lover. As a child growing up in northern England, I learned how to identi[...]

52+: Do something that brings you joy

This morning's news brought me a story that made me smile as I read it. Sarah Merker recently completed a 10-year adventure of visiting all the National Trust Heritage Sites in the UK, in search of the perfect scone. I mean...what a fabulous quest! (Read the article here.) This may inspire a new Nudge for me, a plan to visit a handful of bakeries/patisseries in San Francisco known for[...]

Nudged: Book a midweek lunch with Thor

Back in the day, especially in the early years of our relationship, I used to meet Thor (my darling husband) for lunch near his office once a quarter. I’d arrive early, observe him at work, meet new members of his staff, and make sure we both slowed down and actually ate during our breaks. COVID, of course, shut that all down, even though he went into work every day as the rest of us[...]
