Nudged: Say “no” without giving an explanation
Ooo, I’m excited about this Nudge! I feel like I’ve been gifted a “Get out of jail free” card or the Golden Brick from LEGO Masters! (If you aren’t already addicted to that show, check it out — fun and creative inspiration for all ages!)
Let’s see what the week presents. Be brave!
What Happened: I felt such a sense of FREEDOM as this week set off. I could pass on anything! What would it be? A work request? A plea for volunteer service? A social invitation that felt more like an obligation?
Imagine my surprise, then, when the person I ended up saying “No” to was…me.
Midweek, I had a routine blood test that required overnight fasting. Normally after one of these deprivations, I’d stroll (or sprint) down the block afterwards to one of my favorite bakeries, to treat myself to a sweet or savory pastry.
This week, I said “No” to the temptation. I just didn’t…wait, no explanation necessary. I simply decided this wasn’t what I truly wanted, and I headed home to make myself a healthier breakfast.
The Ah-Hahs: I’d like to believe that this is me doing a better job of listening to my self, of making better choices. It really didn’t feel like a challenge. It was just…right. And it only has to make sense to me.
P.S. At the risk of contradicting myself, I’d like to ask you to say “Yes” to something. I’m blocking out space in the schedule for round #4 for Guest Nudgers, and I’d like you to consider being one. You can choose from my list of Nudges and write about your experience, pick a Nudge from your own list and share it with others, or write a free-form essay, as others have done, about how 52Nudges has impacted your life. You don’t need to be a professional writer! Just be willing to take a chance, and I’ll help. If you’re interested, even if you’re just a wee bit curious, please get in touch.
