Nudged: Splurge on something
Today is Boss’s Day, and what better day to splurge on something for my fabulous boss–who happens to be me! 🙂
Actually, the full Nudge I drew this morning is “Splurge on something from the beauty supply store.” Okay. I can’t recall why I was so specific, but I’m going to follow instructions.
One other “rule” I need to follow is that I can’t spend more than $20. This is good, because it’s going to nudge me to be creative.
Have fun with this! And I hope you’ll share what you splurge on.
What Happened: On the drive to the beauty supply store, I really wondered what it was I was hoping for when I added this Nudge to my list. I was not feeling it. At all.
After placing other items I needed in my basket, I pretty much forced myself to wander the aisles and consider what I might buy. A facial mask? Sure. But I already have a couple stashed in the back of the bathroom cabinet I have yet to use. A cream that’s supposed to dissolve the callouses on my feet? I probably should get that, but it didn’t quite fit the something-fun-that-feels-like-a-treat spirit of the Nudge.
I was ready to give up, grab a new nail polish, and call it done, when I spotted a display case of lip glosses. Remember lip gloss? Pre-pandemic and medical face masks? That stuff I used to swipe on just before heading out that made me feel all pulled-together? I selected a pretty peach and thought, “Okay.” Then I noticed it was only $7. SCORE! I grabbed a warm coral and headed to the register.
The Ah-Hahs: If I’d designated a splurge from the grocery store, I would have purchased something for the kitchen, something for the family and possibly guests. In a gift or clothing boutique, I would have had no trouble finding a little something special for a friend. But splurge on something for myself? Ah-hah. That’s why I picked the beauty supply store. And for less that $20 (stuck to that rule!), I treated myself to two sweet and simple treats that make me smile.
How’d you do with the Nudge this week? I’d love to heard what you splurged on and if you learned anything in the process. Please share in Comments.
