52+: On longevity
Last weekend I had the opportunity to catch up with longtime friends and their extended family. I learned that the patriarch of one branch passed away earlier this year at the age of 102. One hundred and two! To put things into perspective, consider the electronic television wasn’t introduced until 1927, six years after this man’s birth!
“What was his secret–to his longevity, to life?” I asked.
The answers are so simple:
“He walked every day.” He would get up early in the morning and go for long walks, often leaving younger relatives huffing and puffing behind him as he scaled hills with ease.
“He ate whatever he wanted–in small portions.” No diets and deprivations for this guy. He enjoyed life!
“He always had a positive attitude.” This feels challenging in our world right now, until we remember we have a choice to see the good. There’s always good to be found.
And…
“He stayed curious.” He read, considered, discussed. He was open to new ideas and experiences. Just like what we do here with 52Nudges.
Stay curious, my friend, and may you enjoy a long and beautiful life. xoxo
