52+: A book recommendation for finding “Joie”
I’ve added a new book to the References section: Joie: A Parisian’s Guide to Celebrating the Good Life by Ajiri Aki.
First, it’s gorgeous! The photos of Paris and surrounding areas in France will make you want to drop everything and book your tickets.
Second, she’s a lovely writer and storyteller. A Nigerian American raised in Texas, Aki moved to France as a young adult, and she owns Madame de la Maison in Paris. Over time (and through some entertaining trial-and-error), she’s learned how to truly live and celebrate the good life.
Many of her lessons are things I’ve tried to do with my own nudges–such as the art of wandering, the gift of fresh flowers, and reminders to use the good china, the good crystal, the good linens regularly, because every day can be a special occasion!
There’s so much more I’d like to incorporate into my life, and I made notes as I read, ideas for creating new nudges.
I was particularly inspired by the Self-Care section at the end. There’s much to think about here, but don’t skip ahead! I suggest you read through in order, start with small steps, and open yourself up to Aki’s messages.
P.S. I borrowed this book from our local library, as you can see. Santa has already been notified that I’d like this for Christmas. I promised to be very very good. 😉
